So, the last few months have been pretty hectic, and predictably, the habit I’d barely gotten into was rapidly superseded by college and the like. Great start.

Let’s try again. I’m currently just about past the middle of my first semester’s college exams, and I’ve hit that study wall. Two exams left, one on Monday and the next on Thursday, and I went to the lab after today’s exam with good intentions. Two hours of portable counter-strike later, all good intentions were out the window.

In the end I did get some done, but it was bare bones and crap. It struck me that I had completely failed to stick to my writing schedule. Just like I’d failed today with the studying.

Time for me to buck up. I’m off to try a few writing exercises!

but apparently the old saying is right – all good things must come to an end.

Thanks for an amazing three years darlin’, and good luck with college and everything else. :)

Seriously, how did I miss how hot that girl is?

For anyone on the fence about Get Smart, I have to recommend it. Steve Carrell plays the part of a bumbling secret agent every bit as well as Rowan Atkinson did in Johnny English (albeit in a more American way). The jokes are funny for the most part – something always key to a comedy – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is in it (I have a serious soft spot for him since I spent a summer as a ten year old watching WWE), and did I mention how gorgeous Anne Hathaway is? It also has that huge guy I last saw in The Longest Yard – looks a bit like Jaws from the James Bond movie. Love that guy too. I am not a good movie reviewer, but it made me laugh. First film I’ve enjoyed in the cinema since the Dark Knight, and that is saying something.

But if nothing else, see it for Ms. Hathaway.

…to a more cardiovascularly healthy me were taken tonight!

I’ve been a gym-goer for over a year, but always neglected the cardio side of things in favour of weight training. I think it stems from my frustration at how incredibly unfit I had become prior to getting back to the gym, when up until the age of 16 I’d been very fit. Struggling to run for ten minutes is humiliating when you used to sprint up and down a rugby pitch or a basketball court for an hour or more!

Tonight I decided enough was enough, and hit the local track. Ran myself ragged in a very short amount of time, but actually didn’t hate it. Truly, the same thing that applies to gym beginners applies to runners – a partner makes it much easier, and much more enjoyable.

It’s the next few weeks that will make the difference – whether or not I can hold to my commitment – but I’m making it another of my mid-year resolutions (along with getting serious about my writing).

Any expert runners out there have tips for a beginner? If you were making them, what would your mid-year resolutions be?

Hello!

Wizumical is the blog of a 19 year old aspiring writer.

Okay, for those of you not rapidly closing your browser/yanking the power cord out of your computer, I’m going to try and introduce myself and this blog.

To begin with, I want to use this blog as a motivator to help me write every day – it’s time I stopped saying “I really want to be a writer” and started actually making progress toward that goal. So if you’re wondering what to expect from this blog as it progresses… Well, hopefully a lot of happy posts from the bright and cheery creative salt mine, and very few complaints. I intend to post stories on here as I write them, and I’d really appreciate any feedback. As for what I’ll be writing… Well, I’ve no idea. I dabble in everything. Right now, as I’m getting going, I latch on to whatever ideas I’m lucky enough to get!

As well as writing, I am currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science in DCU at the moment (that’s Dublin City University – you can go anywhere from here ™) and enjoying it. I like all the usual things; books, movies, socialising, exercising and have the obligatory (for a 19 year old male) love of video games. I’ll probably post on subjects related to all my interests.

Having miserably failed to set out any kind of clear direction to this blog, I must be off – trying to bust out the daily 1k! Hopefully I can persuade you to keep coming back, and thank you for coming at all.

P.S If you’re frantically scanning your dictionaries (or for those with spiffy Macs, using that) for the word wizumical which you’re somehow missing from your extensive vocabularies – fear not! It’s made up. A Rory O’Keeffe original. I was going to explain it here, but it might make a nice second post, so I’ll keep you in suspense a while longer.
